EDITING

Editing

Services

As a researcher, Dr. Oggins brings special expertise to editing dissertations and research, making sure these are presented coherently, accurately and professionally, which can make it easier and quicker for your dissertation committee to approve your work. Dr. Oggins will edit for:

Appropriate formatting

  • American Psychological Association 7th edition style;
  • Expert use of your school's specific formatting requirements for margins, cover pages, appendices, etc.;
  • Can put in a table of contents that you can easily repaginate it if the headers or page order changes; and
  • Citations in the text and references in the bibliography will be checked to see that they match; if they don't, you will be sent the information to fill in, and when you send that back, it will be added into the final edit.

Better writing

  • Good grammar;
  • Less wordiness and repetition;
  • Stronger organization, so ideas are arranged in a clear logical flow; and
  • If anything seems contradictory or unclear, Dr. Oggins will comment and ask you to clarify.

Better organization as a dissertation and piece of scientific writing

  • Chapters and appendices will be reviewed to ensure they contain the material expected;
  • Statistical data will be reviewed to see that they are presented clearly in tables or text, and with appropriate statistical notation.
  • If it appears data could be analyzed better, or if conclusions are not supported by the data, Dr. Oggins can tell you that also.

Your edited dissertation or research will look professional, and will be easy to read and understand.

Getting an Estimate

For an estimate of editing cost and turnaround time, please e-mail your chapter, proposal or dissertation first. Dr. Oggins’ estimate will include the cost for editing and checking to see that citations in the text and bibliography match up.

  • Work in progress: Dr. Oggins can help with editing work in progress, which can be helpful in figuring out how to organize your material and in seeing what needs to be added. Each draft of work in progress will need a new estimate for editing.
  • If you need to make changes based on feedback received from your committee, then that would also be a new edit.

If your estimate looks OK, you will be asked to send your editing payment in advance. Within three days after payment clears, you will receive your edited document in two forms:

  • one with Track Changes on so you can see the changes and any comments, and
  • a clean copy with changes accepted that can be sent to your committee.

Pay as you go

I can also provide phone consulting and coaching on a pay-as-you-go basis; I would ask you to specify how much time you need for a session and pay in advance, after which we can schedule the session.

Paying for Services

The editing rate is $40/hour for student work and dissertations, and $60/hour for editing (including consulting about next steps) to help prepare work for possible publication in professional journals or other publications. Clients are asked to pay in advance based on the estimate provided. Payment may be made by Zelle electronic transfer, Moneygram or Western Union, or by money order. For dissertations, Dr. Oggins will return your edited document within 3 days of your payment's clearing. Work for professional journals or other publications may take longer to return depending on what the client needs to do to help finalize the work.
